House

So here's the rundown:
We put an offer in on a house in mid-April. It is a short sale and really in good condition compared with the many other houses we looked at. We didn't expect to have too many problems getting it. Sure, there were a couple of things we thought the appraiser might notice so we did a little bit of repair work. But, when the appraiser inspected the house 2 weeks ago he made a nice little list for us to complete before closing. Some repairs were simple like installing a railing on the stairs to the basement and repainting the front stairs railing. But, there were also expensive certification repairs that needed to be done. Like a certification on the furnace (which is old and HUGE), enclosing wiring and having it certified by an electrician, and having the roof repaired and certified. It was made worse by the fact that the appraiser didn't get this list or the report in until a week after inspecting the house. We then rushed to get things done and finished the repairs this weekend (in the midst of moving out). The financing is pretty much good to go now. But alas once we finally think we can close...the Title company found out that the house went to tax sale on Monday and the soonest (supposedly) they can get it all cleared is next week. And to make things better...the house was scheduled to go into forclosure on Friday and so we couldn't get an extension if we had needed one. It has been one long frustrating process! I wish I could say something positive about it...maybe I can list a few things: Next time we buy a house we will definitely know what to check out and ask about. My faith has grown. But overall it has been one thing after another...

so--yes or no? Is it yours yet? Still waiting, or are you in?

Not ours yet. Matt is meeting with a lawyer today and will hopefully be able to close. We are currently living with his parents...
