Week 6 Learning Logs

Jarom's learning log.  Note his "Iron Man" costume.  Between that and his little quirks, you are sure to chuckle.

Courage's learning log.  He wants his to be as funny as Jarom's, but tries too hard and just doesn't have the same innate ability to do the same quirky things as his brother.  He does, however, have his own way of doing things.

Courage's Learning Logs week 1 & 2

Well I can't seem to figure out how to use the media option for the Learning Logs with my tablet!  They have an option to record a video, but it isn't working out right now.  There is also an option to link to a website/ blog post, so I am going to be posting at least weekly until we get it figured out.  I also thought that it might be fun for family and friends to see what we are doing.

Here is Courage's first written log (with my help):

This week I learned about numbers in math and adding and subtracting up to 5.  In English I practiced reading and wrote in my journal.  In science I  learned about atoms.
In tech I got onto Canvas and started homeroom. I also played soccer and ran fast.

Here is his video from this week for week 2:

Homeschooling!

Well we are getting into the groove of school this year.  I'm very excited for it, but the beginning is a bit rough.  We have to figure out how to do the online classes through the charter school we are working with.  This is both fun and annoying for me.  Jarom is taking Lego Robotics and Courage is taking Digital Photography.  They both have Homeroom that includes submitting a weekly learning log and attendance record as well as playing computer games on Study Island, Timez Attack, and BrainPop Jr.  This is probably a favorite class because they get to play games!  I am teaching them English, Math, and Science and then they are playing soccer for P.E.  In the off-season, they will take swimming lessons from a local rec center.  I think the only downfall right now is getting on our schedule and convincing the oldest that it really doesn't take that long and isn't that difficult to write in his journal.  For comparison, it took him less than 10 minutes to write a letter to the Tooth Fairy, but is taking more than 45 to get half a page in the journal.  I do see his handwriting improving though.  Courage is getting better at reading and reads all right when he wants.  He is mastering the math skills.  Hope is learning some sounds, shapes, and numbers.  She is a great big sister for Felicity.

Mother's Day, Trials, and Honey

Today is Mother's Day.  Sherry has given birth to four beautiful children.  It is a miracle that Sherry is a mother.  But, maybe she will not be able to have any more children.  The medical reason that doctors call it a miracle might be necessary again.  And so we come to the concept of "trials."  Yes, this would definitely be considered a trial.  She wept today at church as they discussed trials in the women's group: why we have them, how faith can help us through them.  Of course, she was already weeping.  The pollen count is high today.  Hay fever is hitting her pretty hard this month.  So, she is trying the "local honey" method to get rid of the allergies.  (She is already very sweet.)  Of course, this method can take several months or a year to actually work.

Then, it will be Mother's Day.
